Nikon launches NIKKOR Z 14-24mm F2.8 S and 50mm F1.2 S lenses for mirrorless cameras

Nikon has announced two new lenses for its full-frame mirrorless Z-series: the Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S and the Nikkor Z 50mm F1.2 S. While the company claims that the Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S "is the shortest and lightest full-frame zoom lens", the Nikkor Z 50mm F1.2 S is said to be the "fastest and most optically impressive AF prime lens."

Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-24mm F2.8 S

The new Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S joins the previously launched NIKKOR Z 24-70mm F2.8 S and NIKKOR Z 70-200mm F2.8 VR S zoom lenses. The new optical design of the lens makes it nearly 35 per cent lighter than its predecessor -the NIKKOR 14-24mm AF-S F2.8, as noted in the press release. The 14-24mm F2.8 S lens is quite compact when retracted and weighs around 650grams.

The optical system of the lens includes four ED lens elements to help control chromatic aberrations and capture fine details. The lens includes a nine-blade aperture and features Nano Crystal and ARNEO coatings to control ghosting and flare.

Nikon Nikkor Z 14-24mm F2.8 S is a weather-proof lens and will be available in November 2020 in the US at $2,399.95. The price and availability of the lens for the Indian market in not known.

Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm F1.2 S

One of the noteworthy features of the new Nikkor 50mm F1.2 S lens is that it comes with autofocus to balance the combination of sharpness and bokeh in the images. With a standard focal length, the 50mm F1.2 S prime lens can be used for different photography styles such as landscape, street photography, capturing nightlife and more. Also, the lens can produce portrait pictures with shallow depth of field using F1.2 aperture.

The Nikkor 50mm F1.2 S lens weighs around 1090grams, and features a symmetrical optical design which Nikon says helps the "aberration for true edge-to-edge sharpness." The lens design also includes three aspherical elements to help reduce distortion which will result in better resolution and three-dimensional clarity. The optic comes with Nano Crystal and ARNEO coatings to avoid flare and ghosting.

Nikon Nikkor Z 50mm F1.2 S is a weather-proof lens and will be available in December 2020 in the US at $2,099.95. The price and availability of the lens for the Indian market in unknown.
