Fortnite has been known to enthrall its players with several features related to celebrities from all walks of life. The game has held an online concert with Travis Scott, has had a crossover with Marvel for its superheroes and most recently featured a skin inspired by footballing legend Neymar. Going forward, it plans to tap on the NBA fan base within the game.
The speculations arise from an internal presentation at Epic Games that was made public during the ongoing Epic v. Apple trial. A quarterly business review performed by the company in June last year sheds light on numerous promotional plans the game has in store.
These plans include a basketball mini-game that will come as part of a broader NBA partnership. A particular slide on the idea describes it as "a Fortnite version of arcade basketball," as quoted in a report by The Verge.
The mini-game will allow players to play basketball on virtual courts within Fortnite, instead of the standard Battle Royale version of the game. It will include playoff events, themed emotes, and possibly NBA shows inside the game.
The project propositions, as revealed from the documents, are in line with rumours around season 6 of the game. As per several online reports, the game is anticipated to feature a skin inspired by NBA legend LeBron James in its season 6. It will possibly also feature Zion Williamson, another professional basketball player, for a similar promotion.
Other plans by Fortnite
Fortnite has several plans other than that of the basketball mini-game and bringing LeBron James to its league of characters. Epic Games is rumoured to have been working on a skin themed on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as part of Fortnite's Icon series.
There has not been official confirmation or hint at the same but several dots in the past connect to the possibility. A mysterious Season 6 character in Fortnite bears an uncanny resemblance to The Rock. In addition, the world-famous actor recently made a cryptic Instagram post that is being linked to the speculation.
Since many of the planned activities mentioned in the presentation have already taken form, it is likely that we will see the aforementioned updates on Fortnite too in the coming months.
