Gujarat-headquartered Adani Enterprises is among India’s leading multinational conglomerates. Adani Enterprises is the holding company for various firms under the Adani Group. Adani Enterprises started as a commodity trading firm and has grown to become one of the largest companies in India in terms of market capitalisation. The company’s story dates back to 1988 when Adani Exports was founded by Gujarati businessman Gautam Adani. Initially, the company focused on trading commodities such as agricultural products and polymers. 1993 was the year when Adani Exports, which would subsequently be known as Adani Enterprises, was incorporated. The following year, Adani Enterprises issued its Initial Public Offer (IPO). The IPO was a success and was oversubscribed 25 times in 1994. In the same year, Adani Management Consultancy Services was merged with Adani Enterprises. In the late 1990s, Adani Enterprises developed the Mundra Port in the Kutch District in collaboration with the Gujarat government. In 1999, Adani Exports commenced its Integrated Resources Management (IRM) business and signed a JV with Wilmar Trading to set up Adani Wilmar. 2000 was the year when Adani Enterprises entered the packaged edible oil market with the launch of ‘Fortune’. Adani Wilmar launched its own Vanaspati oil product under the brand name `Raag' in 2001. Adani Enterprises also started a gas distribution business in that year. Adani Enterprises inked a joint venture agreement in 2008 with Chemoil, an oil trading company incorporated in Hong Kong. Adani Enterprises entered the cement business in 2009. In 2010, Adani Welspun commenced drilling operations. In 2015, Adani Ports & SEZ, Adani Power and Adani Transmission were demerged from Adani Enterprises. In 2017, Adani Enterprises started the production of solar PV panels. In 2018, Adani Green Energy and Adani Gas were demerged. 2020 was a significant year for Adani Enterprises when it ventured into the airport business with a portfolio of six airports across India. In 2022, Adani Enterprises completed the acquisitions of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports. In 2022, Adani Enterprises entered the media business with the incorporation of AMG Media Networks.
