Chanda Kochhar to be considered for director's post on ICICI Securities board

ICICI Bank CEO and Managing Director Chanda Kochhar has suggested her name for a seat on the Board of Directors of ICICI Securities, the private lender's broking arm. The proposal will be up for consideration during the annual general meeting of ICICI Securities scheduled for August 30.
Kochhar is facing scrutiny from several regulatory bodies as well as an internal probe initiated by the ICICI Bank over charges of conflict of interest and quid pro quo in disbursing of loans to the Videocon Group. She is on leave till the probe is over. If she is found fit for the position, her re-appointment will be approved by passing an ordinary resolution.
 
Haier's new unit in Greater Noida to generate 12,550 jobs


Haier Appliances will invest Rs 3,069 crore to establish manufacturing units at an industrial township in Greater Noida, UP, DMICDC has said. The consumer electronics company expects to generate direct employment for 3,950 people with this project, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) has said. It has been allotted 123.7 acre of land in the DMIC Integrated Industrial Township Greater Noida (IITGN) project for setting up manufacturing units, it said.
 
Anil Ambani files defamation suit against Congress leaders, asks to stop spreading 'misinformation'


Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence has filed a defamation suit against Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala, Prithviraj Chavan, Sanjay Nirupam, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and others after they failed to respond to a 'cease and desist' notice issued against them by the company over the Rafale deal. Anil Ambani had previously sent two letters addressed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, asking his party to refrain from making unsubstantiated statements.

Arun Jaitley to resume charge as finance minister

Arun Jaitley will resume charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministry on Thursday after a gap of more than three months following a kidney transplant surgery, a government statement said. Jaitely had stopped attending office in early April to undergo the surgery. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was temporarily given an additional charge of the finance and corporate affairs ministry in May.
 
Flipkart launches new platform, 2GUD, for refurbished products

Home-grown online giant Flipkart, now backed by Walmart, has launched a new platform for refurbished goods.  Called 2GUD, this platform is only on its mobile site now. 2GUD will eventually be available on across desktops and other channels. The site is rolling out laptops, smartphones, tablets and electronic accessories. Large appliances would be added to the catalogue soon. Prices of the products will vary from 50%-80% of the original price depending on the certification of the product.
 
Uber hires CFO ahead of a possible IPO

Uber has named a new chief financial officer as the service remained on its way to a stock market debut next year. Nelson Chai came on board from Chicago-based insurance firm Warranty Group, where he was chief executive, according to Uber. Chai has more than a decade of experience at firms including CIT Group financial holding company and Merrill Lynch & Co, according to Uber. Uber last week disclosed that its second quarter loss jumped despite taking in more money, as it invested in scooters and other "big bets."
