Been to Social yet? I have to say, I am not a big fan of the Defence Colony one as the food is quite dull. Yet, the Connaught Place outpost has outdone itself with a new menu that's inventive and fun (this is an addition to the old menu). The sprawling space has a distinct vibe; young, excitable, energetic. Yet if you are looking to capture some of that old CP nostalgia, pick a spot on the terrace and watch the neon lights from the other bars and restaurants beam in the distance.
Odeon Social - Banta
Begin with the seekh kebabs that are crunchy yet moist. Truly delicious. The dum aloo which is a puff pastry stuffed with a spicy potato mix is a take on the humble aloo patty found across canteens in the country and failed to inspire. Remember to wash this down with an Old Monk kala khatta which comes in a banta-style bottle and is wicked (it also makes you feel like you are back in college). The pulpy narangi masala gin also combines the fun flavours of oranges and spiced gin.
Odeon Social - Anda Seekh Paratha
For mains, the pasta tiffin box is a must try. The delightful chorizo fettucini in a cheesy white sauce that has all the ingredients of a successful pasta. The sauce is super cheesy, the flavours clean and the dish comes together quite nicely. The other attractive dish on the menu is the Black Label infused drunk butter chicken. Full marks for being inventive, but the otherwise delicious butter chicken's flavour is marked bitter by the overdose of whisky. Maybe a small shot of the liquor would work better as it wouldn't mar the original flavours of the dish.
The meal can be ended with a toffee pudding on a bed of crushed biscuit which is sticky, sweet and loaded with calories. Head to Social for an evening where fun food and drink are the norm, the service is delightful and the music, reminiscent of life in the 80s.
